Application Guide
Who can apply
We welcome applications from individuals, collectives, and organisations who are passionate about making a positive impact on their community and creating opportunities for youth in the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki area. Your project or programme must have a clear focus on empowering youth in M-T.
The 4 Youth4Sure objectives focus on YOU & I:
Y - Youth connections & Belonging/participation
O - Opportunities for youth who aren’t engaged in education, employment or training
U - Upskilling in Rangatahi Leadership
I - Intergenerational connections & collaboration
The Y4S panel has set up two distinct grant guides/amounts people can apply for:
$500 - $5,000, and $5,000+
This allows flexibility for applicants and leaves it open for project needs. Applicants will have to describe what their initiative is and also specify their budget.
Note that this fund is for the 2024-2025 financial year.
Applicants will receive a decision by Friday 17 January 2025.
Successful applicants will receive their funds by February 2025.
All applicants must have an established entity or umbrella company to receive the funding but we can help to provide this support later (so don’t worry!)
To find out if you are eligible to apply for this fund, check out our Eligibility Quiz.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our funding support team lead: Gloria Tu’itupou at gloria@risegroup.co.nz, 027 550 3456 for further guidance.
What we do not fund
The following activities are considered ineligible for funding by Youth4Sure:
Projects and programmes being held/run in areas not within the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki area
Projects that are the responsibility of other government agencies.
Activities that are part of the core business of a Tertiary Education Organisation (TEO) or Council Controlled Organisation (CCO).
Academic research or tertiary study projects.
Capital purchases, building renovations or purchases, or marae restoration with a value of $1,000 or higher as defined by IRD.
How will applications be assessed?
The Youth4Sure panel which is made up of rangatahi across our Maungakiekie-Tāmaki communities will be responsible for assessing all applications to the fund. All applications will be reviewed and evaluated based on their alignments with Youth4Sure’s values, visions and goals.
The top 3 criterions guiding our assessments are:
Alignment of goals - (e.g., How well does the project align with the objectives of the fund?)
Feasibility - (e.g., Is the project plan realistic and achievable within the timeline and budget?)
Sustainability/future-proof (e.g., Can the project have a lasting impact beyond the grant period?)
Our panel’s values which also guide assessments include:
Identity & Belonging
Culture & Community
Relationships & Connection
Hauora/Well-being
Engaging & Empowering
Future-proof
Our decisions are also validated by a selection group made of M-T, DIA and Foundation North funders.
If a panelist has a conflict of interest with a specific project, such as personal involvement or a personal relationship with someone involved, they will not be eligible to assess that particular application.
